Transition Technical Lead

McLaren Associates Ltd

Be part of an exciting new programme representing a step change in the sector's approach to pest management!

A Lighter Touch is a Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures (SFFF) Partnership Programme between government and industry. The vision of the programme is that New Zealand will become one of the most desirable sources of food in the world. Food produced in New Zealand from plant-based resources will be in high demand internationally and strategically positioned to meet changing consumer and market requirements, based on sustainable pest management practices.
The Programme is a $27 million, 7-year programme, led by Horticulture NZ and involves the arable, horticulture and wine sectors and agrichemical industry.
It represents a step change in the sector’s approach to pest management and will lead to better access to markets, higher quality, improved productivity, and substantive gains in profitability, crop diversity, market competitiveness and a lighter touch on the environment.
Reporting to the Programme Manager, The Transition Technical Lead (TTL) supports Theme 3: Transition Projects part of the SFFF Partnership programme. This theme supports the transition from traditional crop protection methods by providing access to new, more targeted agrichemicals, and updating resistance management guidelines.
The TTL will have responsibility for prioritising and coordinating registration trials to achieve faster access to the best crop protection products that have the best fit for current and future crop protection programmes. In collaboration with registrants, the TTL will be responsible for designing residue and efficacy trials, contracting the provision of trials to providers, assessing the trial outcomes, and coordinating the submission of data packages for new registrations.
The TTL will also co-ordinate a programme to prioritise resistance risks and contract the development of resistance management strategies. A key aspect will be coordination of workshops to consolidate knowledge on existing risks and prioritise the work programme to develop new resistance management strategies.
The TTL will also have responsibility for managing a Technical Working Group comprising industry experts. This TWG will help guide the Theme 3 work programme with the TTL to deliver the objectives of this theme.
A tender process is also being run for this role, inviting suitably qualified organisations or individuals for whom an employment arrangement is not appropriate.
