Automation Engineer - Materials Handling Systems

Technical Recruitment Solutions

Very interesting Automation Engineering role in sunny Hawkes Bay if you have solid PLC & HMI Control System Programming & Commissioning experience.

  • Materials Handling Systems
  • Industrial Controls & Robotics
  • Varied and Challenging role
The Company
Our client design and manufacture automated materials handling systems. With both local and offshore clients, they provide industrial automation solutions for the whole project life cycle and ongoing customer support.

Their primary customers are in the dairy, meat, beverage, and horticultural sectors and examples of their customised solutions include: product handling, palletizing, packaging, robotics and automated guided vehicle integration.

Based in the Hawkes Bay you would be working in a beautiful area and coastline of NZ that has a sought after temperate micro-climate of good weather and high sunshine hours.

The Role
You will be responsible for taking a project all the way through from an automation perspective. So right from the beginning overlooking initial designs, writing the software for PLC, HMI/SCADA, and Robotic integration, and anything else that’s associated with a particular project including the implementation phase, commissioning the project, and providing on-going support.

We need a technical expert with at least 5 years experience programming and commissioning PLC's and HMI's. Specific sector knowledge and robotic programming could be learnt on the job by someone with the right experience and aptitude but obviously if you have this it would be a plus.

Role Snapshot
Industrial Automation Project Engineering including:
  • Electrical/Automation Design and Specification for Material Handling solutions
  • Automation Programming (PLC, HMI/SCADA, Robotics)
  • Site Installation, Maintenance, Retrofitting, and Commissioning
  • Production Troubleshooting and Analysis
  • Creation of Automation/Electrical Documentation e.g. user manuals and training
  • On-going Product Support
Areas of Expertise/Skills Required
  • Degree Qualified in Electrical & Controls Systems or Electrical Trade Qualified with relevant skillsets as follows
  • PLC Programming (Rockwell) and communication protocols
  • HMI/SCADA Design and Configuration (Rockwell and Schneider)
  • Can troubleshoot electrical and control systems.
  • Microsoft Office Savvy
  • Can write Project Documentation
  • An eye for detail and producing quality work
This is a role that would suit someone that thrives off working in a technically challenging role and who already has solid Automation Project Engineering experience. There will be an average of 20% - 30% time travelling and on customer sites both locally and globally. Therefore it will suit someone who is flexible and available to travel away from home, so this is a good opportunity to get paid to see the world as part of your job. With this being said NZ based work is a renewed company focus so you would expect to spend more time locally as this trend continues.

With the increase of robotics and automation now and in the future, this company are the place to be for that boom. You won't be working on just run of the mill picking up boxes and putting them on pallets. Robotic systems now include more precise actions like opening bags and boxes, and vision technology that recognizes variations in a product like shapes, colours, anomalies and the subsequent action chosen suits what is identified.

So in sum: one of the most interesting jobs in this sector you could do with the range of work and technology you would be exposed to, a good company, location, and pay. Need I say more? Call me if you are interested in this lifestyle and career move.
