The Company
With an annual turnover of circa $200m this privately-owned tier three commercial builder has been highly successful in delivering a diverse portfolio of projects over the past decade. They are based in state of the art offices in a prominent inner suburb of Melbourne and their staff enjoy true work-life balance as their project teams are well-resourced.

Strong client relationships and an excellent reputation among subcontractors has given them the ability to be selective and secure predominantly fully negotiated projects at healthy margins.

Projects include new build commercial projects across the health, education and industrial sectors as well as high end apartment projects. They also have a presence in the fit-out and refurb space and deliver complex and interesting projects in hospitality, education and health sectors. Projects can be as small as $5M and as large as $30M in value.
The Role
This role comes with a relatively standard position description for a PM in commercial construction sector so you will already be familiar with the role. There are multiple projects starting in the next 4 – 6 weeks so your entry point into the business can be molded to suit your level of project exposure.
If you have a background in building multi-level apartments you my start on an apartment project to familiarise yourself with the company systems and procedures within while starting with what you know best. You may then transition to a commercial style project in the health or education sectors should you wish to diversify your project expertise.
The reverse may also be the case should you have a background in more commercial or fit out and refurb style projects.
You will lead a project team and have the support of two experienced Contract Administrators, a Graduate Project Coordinator and an experienced Site Manager for each project.

Duties will include;
  • Managing, mentoring and motivating your project teams
  • Cost control of your projects
  • Programming of your projects
  • Managing your clients during the delivery phase
  • Timely cost reporting and forecasting with support from you CA`s
  • Supporting your CA`s with subcontractor negotiations.
  • Assist with design management
About You
This role has been created through organic growth and they are fortunate to be running a proactive rather than reactive recruitment process. They are therefore in a position where they can look at Project Managers with as little as two years’ experience as well as more senior applicants and mold the role and career opportunity around the successful candidate.
To be considered you will have the following;
  • Relevant tertiary education such as a Construction Management or Civil Engineering Degree or Diploma
  • Time served as a Contract Administrator before stepping up into a PM role
  • At least two years relevant Project Management experience with a commercial builder in Australia
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong front-end design management experience
  • Well-developed leadership skills
  • Strong contract negotiation skills
  • A collaborative attitude and strong work ethic.
