Bis has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Safety & Sustainability (HSE) Advisor to join the team at our new Roy Hill project. Partner with our Site Management and corporate Safety Management teams to lead and advise on all matters relating to safety and sustainability. Further development opportunities exist as part of this role with the potential to lead and contribute to high profile projects as part of the broader Safety & Sustainability team’s continuous improvement strategy.

This position will be offered on an 8/6 roster FIFO from Perth

Key responsibilities for this role include:
  • Act as advisory support for successful mentoring by leadership team to support effective safety behaviours;
  • Provide the required technical and leadership support, coaching and mentoring to line management and operational staff to successfully deliver on the agreed business safety and sustainability strategic and tactical goals and targets;
  • Ensure the ongoing enhancement, development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety and sustainability throughout the site operations;
  • Partner with site leadership in achieving its operational goals without compromising safety or health and encourage at all times a positive and pro-active approach to safety throughout the operations;
  • Provide regular reporting to key stakeholders – the ability to identify trends and developments of safety and sustainability impacts (positive and negative) and interventions to maximise business returns and minimise on site risk;
  • Customer closeness and relationship building with key safety and sustainability stakeholders; and
  • Continuous improvement and enhancement of a Zero Harm culture.
The successful applicant will possess:

Essential Criteria
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Health & Safety (or similar), with minimum of 5 years of professional on-site experience;
  • Lead investigation qualification (e.g. ICAM) and auditor competency; Coordinator or Workers Compensation experience;
  • Strong analytical, reporting and written/verbal communication skills;
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to influence / negotiate, motivate, coach and mentor personnel at all site management and operational levels;
  • Relevant experience in Iron Ore surface mining operations.
  Desirable skills / qualifications:
  • Certificate IV Trainer and Assessor;
  • Recognised training and significant experience in incident investigations and injury management;
  • Well-developed service orientation, highly developed business acumen and strategic thinking;
  • Environmental management experience would be advantageous
