Technical Manager (Horticulture/Viticulture)

Table Grape horticulture / viticulture agronomy, IP fruit, Quality Assurance & Quality Control, working closely with national table grape growers.

  • Mildura based, horticultural liaison (agronomy, quality, trial new varieties)
  • Contract role - must have ABN
  • Agronomic experience tertiary qualifications is a must
The primary objective of this position is to supply table grape technical support & quality assurance programs in Australia (80% of work in the Sunraysia region) for one of the world’s leading table grape breeders.
You will report to the Global Technical Manager who is based outside of Australia. Operational functions will include giving technical & agronomic advice to licensed growers, overseeing fruit quality during harvest, working closely with the Australian Commercial Manager in regards to grower’s strategic plan/variety performance and market opportunity, reviewing farming practices, working closely with your global peers to evaluate new table grape varieties and communicating variety success with nurseries through to the supply chain to support commercialization pipeline.
You have (please demonstrate in your Covering Letter):
grape (wine or table), horticulture or related agronomic/technical experience;
has worked with grape or fruit growers and ideally understand the requirements of growing Intellectual Property agreements in place;
demonstrated agronomic advice to growers, overseeing the plantings of cultivars;
committed to dedicating a career in Mildura is ideal especially during the months of September until May each year;
must be available to travel domestically and internationally (with valid passport);
excellent command of English- written (analytical reporting & justifications) and spoken communication skills;
Formal qualifications in Viticulture, Horticulture or Agriculture related study is essential and an understanding of vine or horticulture propagation and production.
Contract fee will vary depending on your experience. You must be a resident and have full Australian working rights. As this is a long-term contract position you must have your own ABN and adhere to the Australian Taxation law to be deemed a contractor eg: submit own BAS, have Public Liability insurance.
