The Associate Principal is a significant role within Westbourne Grammar School. The position requires:

Working with a dedicated Principal’s Standing Committee and Executive Leadership Team, this role provides an exceptional opportunity for further educational leadership and personal growth.

The Associate Principal is responsible for the day-to-day operational management and educational leadership of the school and works closely with the Heads and Deputy Heads of School to maximise learning opportunities.

The Associate Principal provides professional leadership and direction in developing and maintaining an Early Learning­ - Year 12 culture of research and innovation, while optimising available human and material resources, and building teams to advance the school’s learning, welfare and community aspirations.

Westbourne Grammar School is a leading independent co-educational school. Steeped in 150 years of history and tradition, the school is at the forefront of educational leadership in Australia.

Located in a rapidly growing area of Melbourne, the school’s two campuses, at Truganina (ELC – Year 12) and Williamstown (Prep – Year 3), are an easy commute from the city, or from Geelong. This position is based at Truganina. The Senior School (Years 7 – 12) also encompasses a unique Year 9 program and delivers an outstanding Secondary Preparation Program for full fee-paying international students.

The Associate Principal has oversight of the school’s extensive programs and is delegated direct responsibility in specifically designated areas of the current Strategic Intent 2019 – 2022 implementation framework.

The Associate Principal supports to the Principal with respect to providing both strategic and operational leadership of the school and deputises for the Principal as required.

  • A proven ability to establish an effective rapport with students, staff and parents.
  • Able to effectively manage others and work well in teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and trust.
  • Have a proven ability to lead, appropriately delegate and oversee significant projects in line with the strategic direction of the school.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Have a passion for and commitment to excellence in learning within a K-12 coeducational independent school environment.
  • Utilise ICT in an innovative manner to support the school’s workflows and communications.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of whole school teaching and learning programmes.
  • Demonstrate a high-level ability to articulate educational issues and perspectives in communications with colleagues, parents and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal growth as a teacher and educational leader.

Experience and Qualifications:
VIT registered (or equivalent) teacher of considerable experience.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications (post graduate studies desirable).
Senior educational leadership experience, ideally in like-schools.

Commencing in Term 1, 2021, the Associate Principal is a five-year tenured leadership position. The Associate Principal reports to the Principal.
