Once schools reopen their gates, anzuk will have a large demand for passionate and enthusiastic learning support assistants (LSA’s) to work in a range of our pupil referral units (PRU’s) all across NE London. The boroughs in which we have the greatest demand for learning support assistants are as follows; IslingtonTower HamletsHackney as well as Barnet. PRU’s are alternative provisions for pupils who have challenging behavioural and social needs, or for pupils whom have gone missing in education. As a result, the pupils whom you will be supporting in the classroom could potentially have social emotional and mental health issues, or possibly severe levels of autism and specific learning difficulties. 
Despite this, class sizes in these provisions are incredibly small, often with no more than eight pupils in a class, to ensure that more direct and targeted support is being provided to each pupil. The objective of a PRU is to provide the targeted support required for pupils, with the endeavour to gradually reintegrate them back into a mainstream setting. Therefore, your role as an LSA will entail providing close academic and behavioural support, either in small groups or on a 1:1 basis, for vulnerable pupils to impart a life-changing impact on their academic and social development.  
Previous experience catering for pupils with severe academic and behavioural needs, either in an SEND or mainstream setting, is advantageous but not essential. The most essential attributes when working with vulnerable pupils are the willingness to learn and develop as a practitioner, as well as to be patient and compassionate when understanding and supporting the specific challenges of each pupil.   
The roles and responsibilities of an LSA typically involve: 
- Working closely with the class teacher to support in the delivery of
   exceptional learning experiences for children. 
- Working on a 1:1 basis, or in small group sizes, with pupils to provide more
   targeted and meaningful learning experiences.  
-  Utilising effective behavioural management techniques to assist in promoting
   an optimal learning environment within the classroom. 
- Assisting the teacher to set-up engaging and interactive practical lesson
- Undertake additional duties, such as break and lunch duties, as and when is
The majority of our roles require candidates who are able to commit to a long-term position 5 days a week, during typical school hours (usually between 8:30am - 3:30pm). 
To apply and commence working with us you must meet the below criteria: 
- Possess an Enhanced Child DBS with an update service subscription,
  or demonstrate the willingness to apply for one through anzuk. 
- Possess an updated CV, outlining paid employment covering the last two
  years - any gaps in employment must be accounted for. 
- Be based in London, or surrounding areas, and able to provide a valid
  police check from countries you have lived in (outside of the UK) within the
  last 5 years. 
- Be able to show experience working with children in a coaching, tutoring,
  teaching or mentoring role - or a willingness to learn and undertake new 
You must have all of the above to be able to be cleared for work. 
Learning Support Assistants often earn between £75 - £85 per day, dependent upon previous experience. Higher rates of pay can be considered for high-performing candidates with excellent references.
