The primary role of the SQL DBA engineer is to provide technical support to ASG clients in one or more of the following technologies:

Functional support including but not limited to the following:
 
  • Provide Microsoft SQL SME knowledge to projects and BAU improvements;
  • Install, repair or maintain existing technologies under an ITIL framework;
  • Liaise with external vendors where required to ensure timely resolution of issues;
  • Escalate issues which cannot be resolved within SLA and communicate with client/customer of situation;
  • Provide technology support to new and emerging technologies, facilitate/participate in engagements with client and 3rd party organisations on technology issues as required
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of SQL databases
  • Managing the development, testing and production Database environments.
  • Installing, configuring and deploying Database systems, patches and upgrades.
  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, resourcing.
  • Monitoring, reporting and improving database service availability and resource usage.
  • Conducting all aspects of capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning of databases.
  • Strong experience in ERP systems
  • Contributing to the development of procedures governing Database operations and related issues.
  
To be successful, you will be experienced in not only the range of technologies, but also: -
 
  • NV1 security clearance or higher ideally.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and managing enterprise database environments across MS SQL
  • Skilled at writing and optimizing large complicated SQL statements
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
  • Ability to plan and manage resource requirements from high level specifications
  • Capable of troubleshooting common database issues, integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, query plan pinning, tuning database queries, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity and network issues, security issues, etc. including detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
  • Familiar with tools that can aid with managing databases and profiling server resource usage.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017
  • SQL Server Clustering and Availability Groups
  • Have attention to detail;
  • Good issue resolution skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • ITIL V3 Foundations certificate would be highly desirable;
  • Be available to provide on-call support;
  • Flexibility as you may be required to work outside of normal business hours for planned out of hours work.

  • Microsoft SQL (all versions)
  • Windows Servers (all versions)
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Experience managing backups;
  • Knowledge in storage Infrastructure
  • SQL Performance monitoring and tuning
