The Company

My client is a global investment management firm leading the way in investment product for retail, wholesale and institutional clients.  A maternity to leave contract has become available for 12months for a Corporate Communication Manager within the firm's Asia Pacific head office based in Melbourne.

The Role

To manage firms Australia’s corporate communications function through end-to-end management and implementation of strategic communications, public relations, media, social media, and editorial content.

  • Manage the firms Australia’s external communications team, creating a strong team atmosphere.  Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff.  
  • Develops the funds Australia’s external communications strategy to support local and global business strategy, with a focus on protecting and enhancing reputation externally
  • Safeguards the funds reputation in the Australian and New Zealand media through tactical implementation of the core principles of funds Australia and Public Relations (PR) and communications policies. 
  • Contribute to global public relations efforts, supporting collaboration, consistent messaging and ultimately working to safeguard and enhance Vanguard’s reputation globally with U.S. and international counterparts.
  • Develops high quality communications materials, including but not limited to: media releases, contributed articles, positioning and holding statements, presentations, briefing notes, Question and Answer (Q&A) documents, client communications and internal communications.
  • Develops and strengthens working relationships with members of the media, influencers and industry participants to support communications and business objectives.
  • Acts as a Strategic Communications liaison point for Australia, Hong Kong, China and Japan. Providing input into the development of global materials, adding regional context and revisions on Strategic Communications materials and managing local distribution and communications posture. Lead Australia specific strategic communications initiatives.
  • Works with the Head of Corporate Affairs and team peers in Government Relations/Regulatory Affairs function on external positioning regarding submissions and interactions.
  • Leads issues and crisis communications for fund and represent Australia on global Crisis Communication Team alongside the Head of Corporate Affairs.
Key Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, communication or PR, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree in communications or business preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years related experience including proven experience in the management of a strategic communications function. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience leading communications team within a financial services organisation preferred.
  • Strong media relations experience and proven experience proactively managing a network of media relationships.
  • Crisis and issues management skills and experience.
  • Experience in developing fully integrated owned, earned and paid communication campaigns in partnership with marketing
