We are working an executive search project for a client who develops solutions to real-world problems in the Agri-sector that bring transparency, efficiency, and trust to farmers and the post-farmgate ecosystem. In addition to their Agri-blockchain and commodity management solutions, they are actively exploring opportunities such as flexible supply chain finance, simple on-farm contract management for farmers, and solutions for the cotton industry.

Position Purpose
We are looking for a technical leader with a bent for creative problem-solving and a genuine love of team building. You are tasked with creating an inspirational and supportive environment where team members thrive in both organisational and cross-functional teams. You will be responsible for building and overseeing all technology and information systems aspects of the Company, in some cases from the ground up. Working with your peers and direct reports you will contribute to Company growth through the use of technological resources and direct management of all engineering and IT personnel and deliverables to attain our strategic and product scaling goals.

Key responsibilities;
Technical Leadership
  • Establish the Company’s technical vision and lead all aspects of the Company’s technological development and strategy
  • Lead the development and scaling with a focus on a microservice platform that enables multiple modules or products to be brought to market across the supply chain to multiple personas and tens of thousands of users
  • Conduct research, proof of concept, pilots and case studies on internally developed software/products as well as leading edge external technologies
  • Lead the Company’s strategy and implementation of blockchain/distributed ledger and complementary enabling technologies so as to achieve the Company’s objectives
  • Establish and manage a governance and security process that meets government, partner, and company expectations for customer information privacy and data security
  • Co-lead an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan
  • Work in a consultative fashion with other parts of the Company, such as Growth, Digital Finance, Product and Operations as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness
  • Identify opportunities and risks for delivering the Company’s products, including identification of competitors, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of marketplace obstacles and technical hurdles to the business success
  • Represent the Company at key external events such as conferences, panel discussions, workshops and external meetings including with existing and potential customers, investors and broader stakeholders
  • Maintain curiosity and keep up with developments in the field (technical, industry and sector-based) so as to be able to contribute to Company strategy and operations
  • Develop and extend relationships with stakeholders and industry partners.
Team Management
  • Coach Team members to assist in their professional development and deliver improved outputs
  • Manage your team for continuous improvement by assessing process and outcomes and delivering targeted changes to drive quality and innovation improvements
  • Ensure that best in class technology standards and Agile practices are maintained
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team in establishing governance processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately and resources are used responsibly
  • Manage the team’s annual budget and reporting to OKRs
  • Develop the team’s internal and external resource plan and lead the implementation of the same (including offshore resources)
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, computer engineering, business administration or similar to Masters level
  • Proven leadership and implementation of digital technologies and software development - preferably across more than one industry
  • Previous team management experience, with at least 2-5 direct reports and a total team of 20+
  • Experience operating within Agile environments
  • Management experience with offshore team establishment and ongoing management highly desirable
  • Knowledge of blockchain/DLT technologies
  • Previous startup company experience in the same or similar role is preferred
  • Familiarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk management
  • Familiarity with consumer privacy and financial service and /or payments industry compliance requirements
  • Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management, budgeting, and administrative operations.
  • Hands-on coding experience within the last five years
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize
  • Team player, willing to work collaboratively in a high-energy, fast-moving, start-up environment
  • Enthusiastic for and experience in the agriculture, food or supply chain industries is a plus
