Client Accounting Manager required by a well respected mid tier national law firm in Melbourne/ Ideally you will be CA or CPA qualified.

Client Accounting Manager required by a well respected mid tier national law firm in Melbourne/ Ideally you will be CA or CPA qualified.

THE APPLICANT MUST COME FROM A MID TIER LAW FIRM OR GREATER

• Manage the client accounting team in Australia.
• Support internal clients from partners to legal secretaries
• Assist in driving efficiency in the local operation from time recording to billing and from matter set up to closing matters.
• Have a strong understanding of client accounting processes and the dependencies, best practice and what works and does not.
• Have strong knowledge of how practice management systems work, how data is structured and accessed.
• Understand controls in the system, audit trails, reconciliations etc.
• Oversee processing on e-billing billing systems (eg e-billing hub, Serengeti, Lawcadia, ARIBA) and platforms such as PEXA with the Firmwide team.
• Dovetail with Client accounting team internationally and ensure we utilize the best of the international platform.
• Oversee direction of client accounting locally, be aware of trends in processing, market and technology in the area as well as be on top of current and proposed legislation which could impact.
• Assist in the testing of new systems.
• Participate as a key member of the Australian finance team.
• Work with the business in designing and meeting major client bespoke client accounting, billing and reporting needs.
• Assist with trust and controlled money processing, control and audit.
• Drive the day to day functions in a hands on way.
• Understand and control risks in client accounting and look to improve quality of data analysis, procedures and policies.
• Drive some projects in the client accounting space and Australia wide projects eg invoice redesign.

Skills and experience
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build and maintain solid business partnerships with stakeholders - able to work across multi-disciplinary teams to achieve collective outcomes; sensitive to global cultural and diversity issues.
• Advanced communication, facilitation and presentation skills (verbal and written) – ability to communicate technical information to non-technical business users; ability to manage stakeholder expectations.
• Advanced analytical skills.
• Ability to meet obligations with confidentiality, integrity, and sensitivity.

Qualifications and Experience 
• CPA or CA qualification.
• 10+ years' experience supervising and managing client accounting in the legal services industry.
• Strong client facing skills including experience in training and coaching of staff.
• Recent experience integrating, upgrading and/or implementing practice management systems (Elite or Aderant).
• Experienced with legal industry payment and processing platforms.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills.
