Our client is a global Investment company. Their operations in Australia focus on Renewable Energy investments. The successful applicant will be able to join a team in Australia at the start of what promises to be an exciting period of growth as the country accelerates the transition away from coal towards renewables.

The role
You will be part of a team responsible for originating, evaluating and executing new investment opportunities. This role will report to an Investment Director heading up an investment team in Australia. The role is expected to offer immediate exposure to transactions. The candidate must have the ability to work in Australia.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist in origination activities including market research, organising and attending meetings, taking notes and maintaining a pipeline tracker of potential investment opportunities.
  • Evaluate new investment opportunities across the sector, assisting the team in considering returns in the context of identified risks and their mitigants.
  • Analyse and maintain complex financial models in a transparent, accurate and efficient manner.
  • Carry out financial, legal and technical due diligence on new investment opportunities, primarily through appointing and managing specialist external advisors.
  • Assist the team in preparing investment papers detailing new opportunities to the Investment Committee, taking notes of these meetings.
Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Commerce, Engineering or similar.
  • Prior (1-3yrs) experience ideally in an investment bank, private equity house, or in a corporate finance team of one of the big 4 accountants. Professional financial qualifications (accountancy, CFA/CA) and/or MBAs desirable but not essential.
  • Candidates with a post-graduate qualification related to the role (energy / renewables), but limited professional experience may also be considered.
  • A formal engineering or similar technical background may be beneficial but is not essential
  • An understanding of financial valuation theories and financial modelling skills.
  • Understanding of legal concepts, particularly those relating to contracts for the acquisition, construction and management of renewable energy projects.
