We represent a leading Australian corporate law firm. 

The firm is looking to identify a talented senior lawyer or senior associate level lawyer (with 2 to 7 years' experience) in insolvency and restructuring to support a leading partner whilst also providing assistance to the other group partners from time to time.

Restructuring & Insolvency

The Restructuring & Insolvency team at this law firm comprises a line-up of top tier lawyers.  

Acting for an enviable client list including insolvency practitioners, secured creditors and distressed companies, the team covers all areas including restructuring, insolvency (advisory and disputes), distressed debt and special situations.  

The team are regularly acknowledged as leaders in their field by independent legal directories such as IFLR 1000Australian Financial Review Best LawyersChambers Global and Asia Pacific Legal 500.

Position Description

This role will see you working very closely with an experienced partner.  Given you will be a key resource, the opportunity presents unparalleled potential for career development and a large amount of autonomy and responsibility.

You will gain exposure to a range of matters including:
  • credit risk reduction and management;
  • creditors' rights and obligations;
  • investigations and examinations by ASIC, administrators and liquidators;
  • restructuring of debt and equity;
  • restructuring strategies as an alternative to formal insolvency appointment;
  • standstill arrangements;
  • voluntary administrations, receiverships and liquidations;
  • work-out proposals;
  • restructuring strategies as an alternative to formal insolvency appointment;
  • recovering assets for creditors in bankruptcy proceedings; and
  • fraud and forgeries.

The successful applicant will be a senior lawyer on the cusp of being a senior associate or a senior associate level lawyer.  As such, you will most likely have 2 to 7 years experience in insolvency and restructuring.  Ideally, your experience will include large-scale restructures.

  • have a robust personality; 
  • have strong attention to detail with well-developed analytical skills; and
  • be looking to join a small and busy team.
