UX Designer and Agile Delivery Lead
About the Role
We are looking for a UX Designer and Agile Delivery Lead to lead an existing team building new features and supporting ERM Power’s customer portal. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Australian B2B energy market (electricity and gas) and will leverage this knowledge, whilst working with our business analysts and other key stakeholders to determine how best to meet our customer needs with visually appealing, brand-aligned and functional user interfaces.
Having set the UX vision for the Portal, its features and interactions, the candidate will also lead the squad bringing this vision to life. At ERM Power we follow the Agile and DevOps approach to software develop. With this in mind, the UX Designer and Agile Delivery Lead will work the squad and Product Owner to define the scope and timelines of initiatives; improve the incremental delivery of the team; draw attention to issues and risks impacting delivery and facilitate the journey towards DevOps.

The UX Designer and Agile Delivery Lead functions in a key position between the delivery team and the business. Strong communication and problem solving skills will enable the right candidate to build effective working relationships with the Product Owner to understand the product roadmap, define new and upcoming initiatives and keep the business informed of work in progress whilst also representing the Digital & Technology team’s ways of working and promoting our broader IT Transformation Goals to the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business Analysts stakeholders to develop a core understanding of user personas, their needs and journeys as well as business needs and problems;
  • Communicate design solutions to your development team and business stakeholders with wireframes, storyboards, prototypes and sitemaps to ensure shared vision and goals that lead to sound business outcomes;
  • Carry out an assessment of existing information architecture and identify areas for improvement thus contributing to the product roadmap and strategy over time;
  • Be accountable for the quality of the interfaces and user experience associated with the Customer Portal and any associated products, ensuring they meet Business’ needs whilst staying within brand guidelines at all times;
  • Ensure that Agile ceremonies for the squads you are leading are occurring and resulting in continuous improvement in the teams’ self-organisation, velocity, value delivery and autonomy;
  • Ensure Discovery, Inceptions and releases happen at the right time and with the right outcome;
  • Plan a roadmap of delivery for each initiative that the squad understands and can track progress to;
  • Support the team by clearing impediments, preventing disruption and ensure continuous flow of work;
  • Measure and report on key metrics to IT and business stakeholders including progress against time and budget in an accurate and timely fashion;
  • Identify and report risks that arise throughout an initiative’s lifecycle. Work with the ITDM to manage them as appropriate;
  • Maintain regular feedback cycles with the Product Owner to ensure they are informed of progress, key activities and decision points;
  • Coach the Product Owner as they learn their roles and responsibilities when working with an agile delivery team and work with them to highlight product lifecycle and technical debt considerations when prioritising works;
  • Ensure the roadmap of work meets ERM’s technology transformation objectives and adheres to our design practices, as well as continuing to uplift the capability of the squads you are leading to deliver high quality software solutions for our business and our customers;
  • Ensure that the squads manage the performance and availability of their existing applications, and that incidents from all sources are triaged quickly to determine their likely impact and resolved, as appropriate;
  • Participate in the recruitment of new team members where required and with the assistance of others;
  • Manage performance and capability of your direct reports through regular one-on-ones and in alignment with ERM Power’s Performance Management and Review Processes; and
  • Contribute thought leadership into a community of practice to assist with transformation and uplifting capability.

You are a highly motivated and passionate team player who can adapt to an evolving organisation and who seeks to continually improve the way they work, along with:
  • 5+ years’ experience in designing aesthetically pleasing and functional web applications;
  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Invision, InDesign or similar;
  • Advanced understanding of data visualisation and presentation techniques;
  • Demonstrated experience working in agile software development teams and engaging product owners and subject matter experts in agile projects;
  • Deep understanding of agile methodologies and their application;
  • Demonstrated experience in workshop facilitation and stakeholder presentations;
  • Some knowledge of modern software design practices and testing methods for web applications;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (phone and face-to-face);
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required;
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills;
  • Highly developed organisational skills with ability to perform under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines;
  • Ability to teach and coach the squad in agile methodologies;
  • Experience managing a team of direct reports; and
  • Previous experience in energy industry systems and processes will be highly regarded.
