Our client is offering the opportunity to work with professional construction leaders and mentors, as well as boost your career by supporting multiple projects in the Newcastle region.

They are looking for an experienced Safety Officer to play an integral role in ensuring that the projects delivered meet all of the necessary Work Health Safety and Environmental requirements for the project and the company in accordance with the relevant legislation.

The Safety Officer will be responsible for all Work Health Safety and Environmental compliance of the projects, including but not limited to:
  • Meeting WHS&E Legislation, statutory / industry codes of practice, the WHS and SWMS, the manufacturers safe operating instructions for plant and equipment.
  • Provide WHS&E leadership to all site personnel
  • Ensure subcontractors, site employees visitors meet their WHS&E responsibilities
  • Ensure all site inspections take place.
  • Conduct the site induction program.
  • Encourage hazard identification, inspections and reporting.
  • Compliance with Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS).
  • Record all Incidents and Dangerous Occurrence reports and investigate.
  • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) meets compliance.
  • Conduct site safety walks and facilitate safety committee activities.
  • Manage the First Aid Box ensure a First Aid Officer is on site at all times.
  • Ensure maintenance logbooks / checklists for all plant and machinery.
  • Ensure all hazardous materials have Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Meet all Project Safety Report and OFSC WHS&E reporting requirements.
  • Participate in accident / incident investigations.
To be considered for the role you will have:
  • Cert IV Workplace Health & Safety is essential
  • Cert IV Training & Assessment is preferred
  • Cert IV Building & Construction or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards Building Code of Australia and Department of Fair Trading Guide to Building Standards and Tolerances
  • Knowledge of current WHS and EPA Legislation
