Company Overview
Our client is an educational institution focusing on the delivery of academic and vocational education to high school students in China, owned by Edith Cowan University in Perth. They are developing and delivering training programs to provide Australian accredited programs in English and Business to prepare students for successful entry into Australian Universities. 

Position Profile:
The purpose of this role is to:
  • Lead the academic team in China
  • Give guidance to teaching and learning in the classroom
  • Support and monitor assessment activities
  • Assist in developing current and new programs as part of the leadership team
  • Help build a culture of compliance and improvement within the academic team
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise performance of all teachers and assessors delivering programs
  • Provide regular support to the daily teaching and delivery of programs through regular school location visits and teacher meetings
  • Undertake and support the management of classroom issues, academic progress and student learning daily
  • Collaborate with the broader operations, academic planning, instructional design and compliance team to inform and support the instructional strategy and teaching methodology
  • Contribute to the assessment process in each program to ensure adherence to principles of assessment and rules of evidence
  • Support compliance activities by contributing to continuous improvement and validation activities
  • Facilitate effective record management of student evidence
  • Monitor and support the use of simulated business environments and internship programs
  • Contribute to the setting of academic and compliance policy
  • Manage staff professional development and appraisals regularly
  • Provide relief teaching as appropriate on a short-term basis
  • Contribute and sit on the Academic Review Board
Qualification and Attributes:

Required
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing vocational education teaching and learning
    staff
  • Demonstrated experience delivering competency-based content for Business and/or English
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and working in China or other non-English speaking location
  • Australian Training qualifications - Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 with
    upgrade units or TAE40116)
  • Hold recognised TESOL qualification OR be willing to undertake training to gain a TESOL
    qualification
  • High-level communication skills and capacity to work in a team to produce defined outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and resolve issues in a timely way
  • Working with Children and Police or Security clearances, as required
Desirable
  • Qualifications in management and or education
  • Diploma in Training and Assessment (TAE50111) and/or Diploma in Training Design and
    Development (TAE50211)
  • Diploma of Business (BSB50215) and/or Certificate IV in Business (BSB40115)
  • Experience with cross-cultural projects or ESL environments
  • Experience in training Chinese students and/or the ability to speak Mandarin will be highly
    regarded

  • Attractive remuneration
    • The position will be on an Australian contract which will be converted to a Chinese contract once a visa has been obtained
  • Health insurance, visa costs, work-related travel expenses, laptop, accommodation to the value of 8,000RMB per month and utilities
  • A bonus of up to four (4) weeks salary
Commencement: Early November 2019
Term: 12 months with the ability to extend or longer

Visa Notes:
For purposes of obtaining a visa, contract documents, they will refer to the role as an Education Consultant. The position is considered to be that of an Academic Dean. The role may be referred to interchangeably. They will require that the candidate is eligible for a Z-Class visa, so you are legally and adequately employed in China.

This will mean that the process of obtaining the appropriate visa may take some time. They anticipate that this may involve the role being inducted from their Perth office with one or two business visits to Shanghai (and wider China) while the working visa process is happening.

They are hopeful that for any time in between the induction and business trips, the employee will be able to work from home in Australia, so as not require them to relocate to Perth in the meantime. The final arrangements are still in progress, but they do anticipate at the moment that the successful candidate will spend Christmas in Australia.

Location: 
Based in Shanghai, China. The role includes travel to their delivery location for teacher visits. Their current and anticipated delivery locations are Shanghai, Nantong, Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Hangzhou.
