The company

We are recruiting an Accounts Officer for a highly successful retail company with a large national presence.  Based in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, our client is a dynamic and progressive retailer, who are currently diversifying their product range and expanding their operations into different markets.  They are a household name in their sector and are enjoying a strong period of growth.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the organisation as an Accounts Officer.  The role is available as a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with possibility for extension.  In a high-performing culture, you will be in a finance team of 10 and report into a Senior Financial Accountant.  You will be required to manage key relationships, both internally and externally.  This is a hands-on position that will cover multiple areas of the business.  

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Ensuring all invoices are entered into the system, processed and paid within the agreed terms
  • Investigating discrepancies between the company's and creditor's records
  • Managing the weekly payment run
  • Completing monthly reconciliations of vendor statements 
  • Administering foreign supplier set up and payment.
  • Maintaining AR database
  • Participating in relevant month end activities 
  • Ad-hoc project work
The successful candidate

In order to secure this position, you will be a technically capable accounts officer, particularly with AP.  You will be adaptable and place a strong emphasis on relationship building across the business.  The following will be favourably looked upon:
  • Accounts experience in a fast-paced environment, particularly  accounts payable
  • Relevant industry experience is desirable - retail or hospitality preferably
  • Have an understanding of basic accounts functions, including journals  and reconciliations 
  • Experience with a large ERP system
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Stakeholder management experience across all levels
  • Outstanding communication skills
