Curis Recruitment is excited to partner with this fantastic public hospital based in Western Victoria to help them find an experienced Nurse Unit Manager to head up the Nursing team in their children’s and maternity ward.

As the Nurse Unit Manager you are responsible for providing leadership and direction to the children’s and maternity ward - this includes the delivery of midwifery care (antenatal – including antenatal clinic and classes), postnatal (including Domiciliary postnatal care) and intrapartum care), neonatal, Special Care Nursery, paediatric, surgical and medical care services. The ward consists of sixteen beds, two birth rooms and a three bed special care nursery.

Some of the main duties of your role will be:

•Undertaking high quality, culturally sensitive nursing and midwifery care as required providing guidance and support to less experienced members of the nursing team.
• Providing leadership and direction to the ward/unit to complement the strategic direction, operational processes, budget and business direction of the hospital/facility.
• Providing operational direction for the unit/ward to ensure efficient and effective management of the area and coordinate the delivery of nursing care. Responsible for the effective management of human, financial and material resources and ensure customer service is maintained at optimal levels.
• Review of maternity related data to inform operational performance and adjustments; including but not limited to; occupied Bed Days, Clinical Incident severity statistics, compliance with pressure risk and falls risk assessment and management plans.
• Manage and retain proficient team members through successful recruiting, orientation, recognition and development strategies.
• Integrate service model strategies developed through the review of maternity services, using case history review, complaints, consumer feedback and survey data.
• Monitoring departmental contribution to organisational activity targets, conduct team rostering and provide ongoing professional development.

To be eligible for this position you must:

• Be currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia / AHPRA as an Registered Nurse / Midwife.
• Extensive post registration experience in nursing and midwifery with experience across the clinical areas of midwifery (antenatal, birth room and postnatal care), Special Care Nursery, General and Surgical nursing.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• A current Police check and Working with Children Check.
• Wiling to adapt to and is flexible to change.
• The ability to recognize problems and implement changes.
