Specialist Veterinary Surgeon - Sydney.

Veterinary Surgeon required for North Shore Vet Hospital in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney. Great opportunity to join this growing team.

Location – Sydney Australia:

Last year, The Economist’s annual liveability ranking, saw Sydney reached its highest-ever ranking. It’s now ranked as the world’s fifth most liveable city. This came as no surprise to us; we know Sydney as an amazing place to live and work! Sydney is an Australian city that arguably offers the best balance of environment and cultural delights, and it has a wonderful climate. With some stunning beaches and sea pools, plus surrounding bushland, it’s heaven on earth for outdoor types.
Culture is also well catered for, where venues such as the globally renowned Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Art Gallery of NSW offer a huge choice of entertainment. The city’s many multicultural and arts festivals and open-air events complement these established institutions.
Then, of course, there’s the food. Sydney dwellers can enjoy a different cuisine every night. From feasting in Chinatown to fabulous Italian eateries, modern Australian cuisine and everything in between.

About us:

North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre was established in 2001 and is co-located with North Shore Veterinary Hospital. NSVH was built in 1935 and is the oldest Veterinary hospital on the North Shore of Sydney. We are a 24/7, 365 day a year facility with specialists in internal medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry and exotics, a bustling emergency department, and progressive general practice.
In early 2019 we moved to a brand-new state of the art facility, offering four state of the art theaters, one of which is dedicated to orthopaedic surgeries and another dedicated to soft tissue surgery. We can perform fluoroscopic studies in our theaters or within our radiology suite. We have full in-house laboratory facilities, comprehensive diagnostic imaging including two ultrasound rooms, digital X-ray, a 128 Slice GE CT scanner and we are planning for an MRI installation in 2020.
Our specialist internal medicine and radiology services provide support to the specialist surgeons to ensure the best quality of care is provided to our patients. We also offer a veterinary rehabilitation service as an adjunct to the surgical service, boosting the client experience and providing gold standard of patient care from start to finish.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking expressions of interest from a surgeon who is looking for an adventure and wants to work in our team. You will also be working closely with two experienced board-certified surgeons; Dr Craig Bailey who has led our surgical service at North Shore Specialist Centre for the last 14 years and Dr Alastair Franklin who has trained and worked in London and Sydney since 2001.

We also have two surgical interns, and a team of specialist trained surgical nurses who have many years of experience in anaesthesia nursing, as surgical assistants and radiology nurses, while providing a very high standard of in-patient care.

In this role, you will provide a specialist referral surgical service and consult to our extensive general practice network across Sydney and Australia. We strive to achieve clinical excellence within a working environment that promotes and encourages collegiality and communication. While this is a permanent opportunity for employment, we are open to conversations about short or long-term contracts.

About you:

To be successful in this role, it is important that you are a qualified companion animal specialist surgeon. It is important that you have been accepted by the ACVS, ECVS, or a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and that your qualification will be eligible for Specialist Registration with the Australian Veterinary Board Council. You are welcome to email us for more information about this, or you can refer directly to our guidelines of the Veterinary Registration Board NSW.

Above all else, however, we value someone who is a team player; committed to our patients and is keen to be a part of our specialist team.

The Benefits:

You will be rewarded with a generous salary & benefits that is reflective of the experience you bring to the position. We will support you with visa application, Australian Veterinary Registration and provide you with tailored relocation support to suit your situation.
