The purpose of this position is to provide apprentices with tailored support and guidance resulting in high retention and the completion of their apprenticeships. The mentor is responsible for delivering in-training support services throughout the apprenticeship life-cycle including regulatory engagement, pastoral care, referrals, soft-skill courses, guidance and mediation.
This role plays a critical part in the apprentice-employer relationship by identifying and advocating for ‘at-risk’ apprentices, and applying intervention strategies to negotiate positive outcomes. You will identify and assess risk factors to determine support requirements with a focus apprentices in skills shortage industries.
You will maintain regular contact with apprentices and employers via phone, SMS and emails. You will ensure all case notes are kept up-to-date, are accurately recorded and actions are followed through in a timely manner.
We’re looking for someone with a proven ability to lead, motivate and communicate with a broad range of individuals from challenging backgrounds. You’re an influential communicator who has a high level of interpersonal skills, empathy and the ability to build relationships based on trust and integrity. You think positively, are resilient and solutions-oriented. You’re confident working autonomously and can self-manage to achieve a broad range of outcomes within set timeframes. You adapt well to change and can work flexibly to accommodate the needs of clients.
You have a proven ability to identify, analyse and resolve complex issues, and have experience in developing and managing various mentoring services. Candidates with experience in social sciences, behavioural sciences, youth work or a discipline relevant to community development and services are highly regarded. You must have a Certificate IV in Workplace Mentoring or willing to undertake the qualification within the first year of employment.
