Our client is an Australian owned betting company with operations in Australia, USA and India. They are set for a NASDAQ listing in the coming months.
 
They are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Inhouse Legal Counsel to join their exciting and expanding company.
 
Reporting to C-Suite Executives, and working collaboratively with business units, you will be managing the legal risk profile of the consolidated Group to ensure that it maintains and strengthens its competitive position, by providing high quality, timely, independent and cost-effective legal services that meets the Group’s strategic objectives. 
 
You will work on a broad range of legal tasks, including; commercial and customer arrangements, due diligence, legal and compliance requirements and ongoing monitoring for all of our states, territories and countries, providing updates to Senior management and Board on current and future compliance, legal and regulatory matters.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Working closely with the business and the Group’s external layers to deliver practical and high-quality advice on a wide variety of corporate and commercial law matters
  • Advising on and implementing strategies to resolve commercial disputes
  • Develop legal tools and methodologies consistent with best practice contract negotiation and contract management policies and procedures
  • Proactively develop processes, templates and skills in the business to reduce incidence of future claims
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for staff on relevant legal issues
  • Research key legislation and legal frameworks affecting the organisation and ensuring that relevant units are informed of new or proposed legislation and policy to ensure legal compliance
  • Train and support business leaders
  • Maintain currency of compliance training
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the CEO
 
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated success with at least six years' post admission experience within a law firm and/or corporate environment
  • You will have demonstrated high level commercial and negotiation skills and be recognised for your integrity, strong influence skills and ability to build trust across various stakeholders
  • Your strength will be in identifying risks and developing mitigation and control plans; supporting continuous improvement; ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures; and implementing strategies and plans
  • You will have the ability to think strategically whilst maintaining an eye for detail, excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills, outstanding communication skills and the ability to deal appropriately with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Exceptional research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in wagering will be highly regarded
  • Experience working with companies that are pre IPO and listed entities in Australia and U.S.A preferred.
  • Analysis skills – ability to understand a business and provide valuable input to business decision making.
  • Sound organisational and time management skills 
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information
  • Flexible and easily adapts to change; can ‘go with the flow’ in a fast-paced environment where things change frequently
  • Energetic, eager and self-motivated with a positive outlook and an ability to juggle multiple tasks to produce quality work output and achieve results within quick turnaround times
