Managed Service System Engineer

Purpose Of Role:
As a key member of the Managed Services Operations Team, your focus will be on proactively managing our client’s IT environments through the use of our Operational Tools. You will utilize your in depth knowledge of the Microsoft System Center Suite (Configuration Manager, Operations Manager, and Orchestrator) to provide monitoring and administration of our clients endpoints. You will also be well versed in Microsoft SQL and use these skills to query SQL Databases to create and modify reports, as well as perform troubleshooting when performance issues arise.
This role requires someone who has excellent troubleshooting skills as you will be required to investigate issues with SCOM and SCCM agents on our client’s computers. You will also have an eye for detail as you will be responsible for moves, adds, and changes within these tools which requires a high degree of accuracy.
Your key activities will include the ongoing support and maintenance of the System Center Suite and it’s respective agents, ensuring these systems and their underlying infrastructure remains fully patched and updated, and assisting in any queries that originate from our Managed Services team or clients.
  
  
Key Competencies Details
Essential
  • This role requires the follow Competencies and Experience;
  • 8-12 years of IT support experience with technologies such as Microsoft System Center (Operations Manager 2012 R2, Configuration Manager 2012 R2 and Orchestrator)
  • Minimum 3 years experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2008 and onwards) writing queries and performing administration tasks
  • Industry based certifications
  • Ability to work in a billable hours environment
  • Passion for customer service
  
Desirable
The following Competencies and Experience would be an advantage in this role;
  • Prior experience within an outsourced service delivery environment
  • Working knowledge of ITSM service delivery concepts
 
Activities
  • Whilst your day to day activities will vary to meet your Roll’s Mission, KPIs and the operational requirements of the job, we envisage the following key activities being required to achieve success in the position;
  • Technical Support 90%
  • Moves, Adds and Changes for SCOM and SCCM
  • Troubleshooting SCOM and SCCM client issues including agent installation problems, connectivity, and status reporting
  • Fine tuning of monitoring thresholds to reduce noisy alerts
  • Development and maintenance of custom reports on SCOM and SCCM data
  • SQL Server administration
  • Troubleshooting of Orchestrator run books
  • Professional Development 10%
  • Obtain and maintain industry certifications
  • Stay up to date on new and emerging technologies to assist in Operations
  
Key Qualifications
Essential
This role requires the following Qualifications;
  • Industry based technical certifications (eg Microsoft, Citrix, VMWare, EMC, Cisco, HP)
  
Desirable
The following Qualifications would be an advantage for this role;
  • ITIL Service Management accreditation
  • Tertiary qualifications (eg Management, Business, Engineering)
