Your new role:
Occupational Therapist - Behaviour Support Practitioner
Employment Term: Full Time ongoing
Salary:  $70,000-$100,000 plus Super

Location:  Liverpool 
Commencement: April 21st, 2021
We are seeking Occupational Therapists who have a keen interest in Positive Behaviour supports, along with a desire to move into the disability space to join our team.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a therapy approach to understand what maintains an individuals challenging behaviour and how to change it to achieve quality of life outcomes. PBS outcomes are achieved through a person centered, systematic and evidence-based approach, facilitated by a person that is attuned, curious and committed to supporting all people to live their best life, without restriction.  
Working across the lifespan and achieving outcomes for greater quality of life and less restriction,
you will be supported by enrolling in and completing our industry leading PBS training programme and ongoing development programme.  Our PBS therapists meet regularly to celebrate successes, unpack challenges and to learn.  We have also embedded well being and reflection days into our programme because we know that in order to deliver a world class service that learning development and the wellbeing of our practitioners must be prioritised.
As a Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will work within your scope of practice to achieve the below outcomes:  
  • Undertaking comprehensive functional behavioural assessments and analysis of data to determine the participants quality of life trajectories and future potential.
  • Prepare full, accurate and timely reports (particularly interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans) that will assist in future planning and recommendation strategies in line with the NDIS Behaviour Support (2018) Rules and Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • Build the capacity of the participant, supports and/or mainstream community services to understand the function of the behaviour and implement agreed proactive and reactive strategies to reduce the likelihood of behaviours occurring.
  • Work in a multi and interdisciplinary model with a range of allied health practitioners to provide holistic and integrated approach to supports.
  • Regularly evaluate progress and outcomes, using relevant measures, and discuss outcomes with the participant, families and/or their supports while celebrating the small wins
  • A commitment to ensuring the human rights of people living with a disability.
  • Identify the facilitators and barriers within a person's environment (attitudinal, social and physical) with meaningful and impactful goals which achieve the person’s quality of life objectives.
  • Understanding of restrictive practices/interventions and the role of the behaviour support practitioners, implementing providers and service users in thinking creatively to safely reduce and/or eliminate the need for restrictions.
What do you need to be successful in this role?
  • Full registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have the right to work in Australia
  • Meet the requirements to work as a Behaviour Support Practitioner (s29 registration) under the National Disability Insurance Scheme Commission’s Positive Behaviour Support Capability framework
  • Current National Police Check
  • Working with children’s check
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work well during times of escalation and can be responsive to others, reflective and display atonement
  • Positive and effective self-regulatory skills of emotion and wellbeing (emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills)
  • Professional demeanour with a positive attitude
  • Can work efficiently and effective with time pressures
  • Feel ‘comfortable with the uncomfortable’
  • Positive approach to conflict and risk
