Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

About the role:
We are now seeking to employ an experienced Environmental Advisor at our new Shine Mine Site on a 8/6 (12-hour day) roster. Our FIFO and DIDO rosters will appeal to candidate in either Geraldton or Perth.
Reporting directly to the Environment & Community Superintendent the primary focus of this role is being responsible for assisting in the delivery of the environmental management programs in the Mid-West including monitoring, reporting, training and system development to support environmental compliance of site operations.

Key tasks and responsibilities
  • Fully supporting the Superintendent as requested and as instructed
  • To undertake all activities in a safe manner and in accordance with site safety requirements
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures to maintain compliance with environmental approvals and licensing
  • Assist in the preparation and issue of internal approvals (ie ground disturbance permits)
  • Developing and assisting with internal and external environmental reports (ie CAR; AACR; AER)
  • Development and maintenance of environmental management plans, procedures and work instructions
  • Participating in monitoring programs such as water (potable; groundwater; WWTP), flora, fauna and mine site rehabilitation.
  • Implementing and assisting with environmental awareness and training programs
  • As requested, managing consultants and contractors on a day to day basis while they are on site
  • Communicating environmental risks or issues to MGM management
  • Assisting site personnel with the management/control or investigation and reporting of environmental incidents
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Science, Engineering and/or Natural Resource Management
  • Current West Australian drivers licence
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • A familiarisation with Western Australian environmental legislation applicable to the mining industry
  • An understanding of mining processes and the subsequent environmental risks and effects
  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised
  • A strong attitude towards working safely and a thorough understanding of working within safety systems
  • Effective planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Attention to detail
  • A background in meeting environmental regulations such as approvals and licensing
  • Ability to collate and prepare a written report
