Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.
Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe and a current mine life of +5 years.

About the role: 
We are now seeking to employ experienced Mine Production Engineers to join the team at our Koolan Island Operation for permanent positions on a 12/9 (12 Day on 9 Day off) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.
   
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, this role is responsible for all production planning and drill and blast activities of the operations.  This role plays a critical part to drive the short and medium term planning to meet all safety and production targets.
   
You will be working in a tropical environment which is hot, humid and has wet season with cyclones and stormy conditions. You will need to be adaptable and work with various departments and in a team environment.
  
Key Tasks and responsibilities may include:
  • Providing detailed daily, weekly and monthly mine planning and scheduling.
  • Mine plan compliance monitoring and production reporting, Wenco support.
  • Examining mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
  • Preparing drill and blast design plans & monitoring, QAQC, blast vibration modelling.
  • Providing engineering services to other stakeholders, as required.
  • Share understanding of geotechnical design and civil projects with key stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the development of long term mine plans.
  • Working closely with the supervisors and operations superintendents to execute your plans.
  • Project work, as required.  
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Tertiary qualification in mining engineering or equivalent.
  • Unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate - desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience in mine design, planning and scheduling within in a similar position in the mining industry
  • High level of computer literacy and experience in Surpac mine planning software is essential
  • Drill & blast experience is essential.
  • Valid C-class Driving Licence.
