Minjar Gold is a privately owned Australian gold explorer, developer and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in both Western Australia and Queensland.  With its flagship project located in the Goldfields region at Marvel Loch, the company owns a tenement package in excess of 1,400km2 with significant exploration potential and a gold processing facility.  The Southern Cross Operations has an underground and an open-pit mine and we are currently undertaking feasibility work to open a second underground mine in 2020, so now is an exciting time to join the company as we pave the way for growth. 

About the role
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Mining Engineer is responsible for liaising with Technical Services, the Mine Operations team and other departments for mine planning purposes The role also provides technical development, implementation and review of site drill & blast activities and assists with daily, weekly and fortnightly mine designs, plans and schedules, the critical review of contractors’ performance to plan, and monthly claims.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • To design drill and blast patterns to ensure suitability for mining purposes and optimising outcomes
  • Monitor pit developments to ensure drill and blast activities are implemented appropriately
  • Monitor blast performance with emphasis on the reduction of wall damage caused by blasting
  • Monitor contractor performance with respect to drill and blast implementation, QAQC and cost control
  • Complete daily, weekly and fortnightly mine designs, plans and schedules in a timely manner and ensure they are effectively communicated and implemented
About you:
The successful candidate will be degree qualified in Mining Engineering and have at least two years of experience preferably in narrow vein gold. You will be competent in the use of engineering software, preferably Surpac and Deswick for drill and blast, planning, scheduling and mine design in the open pit. If your chosen career direction and interests may take you towards having some underground experience in the future, there will be opportunities to move around internally with the new underground scheduled for later this year. It would also be considered advantageous to be working towards obtaining your WA Quarry Manager or First-Class Managers certification. Assistance to complete further practical time may be available if required. Your demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small, tightly knit mining team environment together with excellent problem solving and communications skills will be crucial to your success in this key role.
