The Corporate Affairs team works closely with politicians, department officials,  stakeholders, regulators and government to educate them about Hireup, highlight our significant social and economic impact and showcase our incredible work. Corporate Affairs services our business through helping policy makers, investors, media and analysts understand the opportunities that affect our thriving community and advocate for change – expanding our social impact and working towards a society that is truly accessible for all.
 
As Government Relations Manager, you will enhance Hireup’s government engagement and activities on a broad range of policy issues as well as develop and drive the implementation of our Government Relations strategy. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, you will thrive on driving political advocacy through your passion and continuously growing and adapting. You will need to get across the big picture quickly, while also being comfortable getting into the details from time-to-time. Knowing the political landscape, especially Federally and in NSW will be key. You will be working closely with the Corporate Affairs team and CEO, and lead our government engagement at State and Federal Levels. 
 
Travel to Canberra and interstate will be expected as part of this role. You can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra.

Priorities - the work
  • Lead, design and develop the Government Relations strategy for Hireup
  • Design and develop political engagements targeting specific stakeholder cohorts and/or community groups
  • Proactively identify priority legislative and government relations issues for Hireup
  • Develop sensitive communications that enable transparency to political stakeholders
  • Build and nurture relationships with all government stakeholders so they are conscious of Hireup’s public policy positions 
  • Develop overarching thought-leadership priorities for executive leadership that will support the public policy agenda
  • Work cross-functionally to build government engagement strategies and campaigns that promote and enhance the overall reputation of Hireup
  • Drive government affairs activities, including CEO level meetings and representing Hireup in meetings and activities with government and elected officials 
Skills - the person
  • Solid experience working within government relations, politics, journalism or a similar field
  • Relationship management skills and expertise, including the ability to work collaboratively in a political environment
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex policy matters, get to the core of the issue quickly and use spoken and written rhetoric to persuade and inform
  • A true advocate with highly developed political acumen and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills
  • Strong connection to, or interest in building an understanding of the Australian disability sector and community
  • Approach work with high-energy, drive and internal motivation
  • Exhibit adaptability, resilience, transparency, trustworthiness, passion and innate curiosity
