For the Product team at Hireup, it’s not only about creating the most elegant, intuitive, accessible and powerful peer-to-peer platform in Australia, but to ensure we are building an efficient and lean model that maximises choice and control for both Australians living with a disability and their support workers.

As a Lead Software Engineer, your primary focus will be to lead a team of passionate engineers to discover, design and implement product features that will deliver significant business and user value. From developing new features in our core application, to guiding the architectural direction of our platform or helping design a technical education program for our cohort of junior engineers, the work will be as varied as it is challenging.

 Priorities - the work
  • Lead and coach a team contributing to our re-platforming efforts as we migrate from a monolithic Angular 1.6 & Node app to an API-first, multi-service backend architecture with Vue.JS frontends
  • Support and grow team members to help them unlock their full potential
  • Maintain a strong focus on architecture, design, quality, process and team health
  • Collaborate closely with the other Leads, Architects, CTO, Product Managers, Agile Coaches and Engineering Manager to ensure the team has the support they need, are upholding our agreed upon standards and are building towards our architectural and Product vision
  • Interact with other teams including Community Support, Marketing and Data to take a cross-functional approach to building features for our community of users
  • Design and build efficient and reusable abstractions and systems; engineering for performance and maintainability
  • Grow our development capabilities and help build a culture of innovation and technical excellence 
Skills - the person
  • Solid experience leading a team of engineers, supporting and growing people
  • A strong track record of delivering web based Products, ideally in a high-scale environment, with skills in all the related technologies including HTML/CSS, JavaScript, frontend frameworks/libraries such as React or Vue.JS
  • Experience with various database technologies such as SQL and/or document-based will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of Design Systems and related processes beneficial
  • Collaborative approach with experience working in an Agile team environment
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Great eye for detail and strong sense of responsibility
  • Strong connection to, or interest in building an understanding of the Australian disability sector and community
  • Approach work with high-energy, drive and internal motivation
