Are you interested in independent work helping and supporting someone with a disability, to have a good life?

Let us introduce you to an independent 48-year-old lady who loves doing online university courses, algebra, word puzzles, sudoku, discussing history, politics, society and psychology. She loves current affairs and writing, is a member of a book club, loves watching movies (mostly comedies) and documentaries. She plays computer, card and board games for distraction and relaxation.

Residing in Ipswich she will be staying in alternative self contained accommodation within the Ipswich area to provide a change of environment over the festive season.  Whilst requiring assistance with ADL's she also relishes her autonomy and lives the fullest life she can from bed. She currently has great companions to help her whilst sharing time and interests.  Her care roster is currently fully extended which has created an opportunity to engage a new support person to be accommodated on the roster.
The Role
You would be supporting the client with hygiene, meal preparation, laundry, keeping her company, playing cards and board games. This client also self manages her NDIS plan and will be raising payment requests and paying her support team while on holiday. The client has fluctuating capacity and may or may not be able to access the community. She has manual wheelchairs that require carer assistance. The client can weight-bear and self transfer.
A range of hours and shifts are currently available.
Over the festive season the client has booked respite accommodation in Ipswich so is close by for any of her needs.  This role will extend back to her usual residence when she returns home.
About You
You’d consider yourself a skilled and experienced professional with a flair for being intuitively in tune with your client coupled with exceptional communication to check you are on the right track. With an intelligent and deeply caring nature, you would facilitate day to day living with a person-centred approach. Your ability to respect decisions and choices will be imperative to building an equal, enjoyable relationship with this strong, independent woman. Being sensitive to the client’s needs will allow you to navigate effortlessly the emotional nature of the time for the client and facilitate an enjoyable and memorable holiday. You will have had a record of successful care.
  • ABN
  • Public Liability and Personal Indemnity Insurance
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Criminal History Screen or Blue Card (or willing to obtain)
  • Current Driver’s licence
  • Certificate III or IV  relevant qualification
  • Experience in Disability Care
  • May be option to use own registered roadworthy vehicle if required to transport client
  • Only support carers over 25yo can drive the client's vehicle due to the client's insurance criteria.
  • Prefer non smoker
