This role is based at Nyrstar’s operations in the city of Port Pirie, South Australia. A seaport located on the east coast of the Upper Spencer Gulf, 220km north of Adelaide. 

This is a key role within the Asset Management Department and the primary purpose of this role is to manage, lead and deliver the suite of capital projects within discipline area. In addition, input is expected for concept development and feasibility stages of proposed capital projects along with provision of technical advice on engineering related matters to operating departments. The role includes key accountabilities and engagement activities as described below.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Accountability for safety leadership, scheduling, prioritisation, cost management and control, communication of strategy and fostering engagement within capital project team structures including operations, technical and maintenance teams
  • Provide engineering services in your area of responsibility to the site in project investigation, design, and implementation to ensure the on-going engineering development and improvement of plant infrastructure;
  • Assist the development and delivery from concept to execution of assigned projects aligned with the capital plan;
  • Within an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) business model, undertake project management functions that apply to the Nyrstar Port Pirie project management and capital management processes for execution of projects;
  • Responsible for the total budget and schedule of each project;
  • Manage and coach project stakeholders on delivery to Capital Projects model requirements;
  • Develop and adhere to a project budget and project schedule and implement agreed change request system for all work not in original scope;
  • In conjunction with Project Champion and Construction Manager, develop an appropriate engineering design and project execution plan for each project;
  • Prepare project estimates to achieve the required scope of work, as well as preparation of proposals and requests for project funding; and
  • Plan and coordinate the commissioning activities (including wet and hot) for projects to ensure projects are handed over to clients in an operational condition that complies with design intent;
The Successful applicant:
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant engineering field;
  • Greater than 5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and project management environment;
  • Experience in mining, smelting. heavy industry or petrochemical industries;
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills; and
  • Experience with SAP, PMO software.
This role will require you to live in Port Pirie or the surrounding district. A relocation package will be available.
