Farm Manager - Intensive Grazing operation, Central NSW

Our clients run a large-scale family run pastoral operation with properties in NSW and QLD. This role is based on over 3000 Ha situated around Coolah in Central NSW running a productive and intensive grazing operation of fat lambs, cattle and fodder cropping.  The property has the capacity to run 10,000 sheep and 500+ cattle on a dryland intensive grazing and fodder cropping system.   Currently 1200 acres is sown to dryland winter crops (oats and triticale) for grazing and fodder with a further 600 acres of high producing lucerne. 

A suitably experienced manager is required to take on management of the entire operation with a focus on livestock operations.  Contractors are utilised for most of the cropping work such as sowing, bailing and spraying as well as fencing.  This is an exciting opportunity to join an intensive operation and be part of its growth in a fully autonomous role.
The property is under a continuous pattern of improvement and livestock facilities include excellent cattle yards, 2 well maintained shearing sheds and there are plans to install new sheep yards. 
Key responsibilities
  • All aspects of livestock husbandry including health, nutrition, breeding, and grazing management with weight gains being the main measure of success.
  • Fodder crop production including winter cereal crops and lucerne
  • Implement and maintain a pasture renovation program
  • Weekly reporting to absentee owners with increasing involvement in budgeting and planning over time.
The successful applicant must
  • Have an excellent knowledge of sheep production systems
  • Be passionate about intensive and progressive modern farming systems
  • Be well organised, honest, and reliable
  • Be an effective communicator and ability to work well with and organise contractors
  • Be self-motivated and able to work on your own, with contractors and with a small team as the business grows.
The property is located 10km west of Coolah in Central Western NSW and is well situated to major city centres and excellent education opportunities for kids being 150km from Tamworth, 450km from Sydney, 350km from Newcastle and 120km from Dubbo.  This would be a great opportunity for a young family.

A generous performance-based salary package is on offer to the successful candidate with review after 3-month probationary period.  The package includes a modern, 4-bedroom homestead in excellent condition that would suit a young family.
