Head Stockperson/leading Hand required for large Cattle station - Channel Country SW QLD.

Bulloo Downs station forms part of the Gibson Grazing company who currently own and operate a total of 11 properties throughout QLD and NT.   Covering 6 million acres the properties carry approximately 73,000 cattle including 28,000 breeders, large cropping operations and a 4,000 head feedlot based near Dalby.

 
Bulloo Downs covers some 2.8 million acres and is located 120km south west of Thargomindah QLD, running up to 25,000 head of euro-cross cattle, including 10-12,000 breeders, and has a range of flood out, pebbly gidgee and scattered mulga country.  All mustering is done on motor bikes with station aircraft, piloted by the station manager.
 
We are searching for suitably experienced headstock person/leading hand to join the team, reporting to the manager, you will assist in running a small yet efficient crew in all station tasks. You will enjoy leading by example and teaching younger staff in the safe and efficient way to work cattle, mustering and yard work and have a keen eye on a draft for cattle destined for certain markets or breeding herds.
 
To be considered for this role, you will need to possess the following attributes and skills –
  • Have experience working large numbers of cattle, working with aerial assistance.
  • Experience in general station maintenance and staff management.
  • Have a good amount of mechanical knowledge.
  • Enjoy mentoring and training younger staff, leading by example.
  • Be of clean habits and have experience in a similar senior role.
  • Sound reporting skills ensuring management is well informed.
  • HC truck license would be an advantage.
  • Ideally have some heavy machinery operating experience (loader, grader, dozer etc).
 
Award rates are offered plus all meals and accommodation is supplied.  Wages will be discussed and negotiated after a successful 3-month trial period.  Accommodation for couples is available.
