Adelaide rapidly growing private company operating innovative new technology in the environmental and GIS sector

  • Data programmer / software engineer
  • Arc GIS analyst
  • Hands on collaborative entrepreneurial environment
An Adelaide based, rapidly growing private company operating innovative new technology in the environmental and agricultural sectors is seeking a skilled software developer with GIS analyst knowledge to join their team.
This start-up is growing rapidly, servicing clients in the agriculture and environment sectors.  They are using state of the art technology including remotely piloted aircraft systems (drones), hyperspectral scanners, cloud computing and machine learning to generate spatially and temporally relevant information to improve productivity for land managers and growers.
Joining their close-knit, collaborative team this exciting new role would be a mix of data programming and software engineering, with a cloud-based focus which would involve workflow automation including image analysis and target detection processes using machine learning algorithms.  The position will further automate existing data processing and analysis pipelines, create new ones and assist in building a testing suite for key components to ensure generation of robust, repeatable and accurate results. Day to day activities would be varied and include working closely with the team on existing technical issues, along with independent problem solving and developing their own in-house approaches to delivering spatial big data solutions to clients. Willingness to assist with some field work for data acquisition (i.e. drone related image capture and ground truthing) for clients would be involved in this role, although no previous field skills are necessary.
Interested applicants wanting to join this passionate innovative team, working in a ground-breaking, ever evolving field, must have strengths in software development and programming for data management. The following experience is desirable:
  • Software development (ideally with some spatial data experience)
  • Python (particularly numpy and pandas, ideally rasterio and geopandas)
  • Use of Git VCS
  • Data management (SQL preferred, experience in with Postgres or PostGIS highly regarded)
  • ArcGIS suite experience including architecture and workflows
  • Developing machine learning pipelines in a programming context
  • Cloud computing
As a collaborative genuine team player you will be authentic, adaptable and committed to helping and supporting others to achieve positive results. This is a small but growing team and as such employees must be responsible for their actions, driven, adaptable, commercially aware and willing to learn. The employer understands that the role may require two different skill sets (data programming and spatial analysis) and will therefore consider applicants with strong experience on one area and a genuine passion and interest in the other.
Flexible remuneration option inline with the startup nature of the business.
