Ora Banda Mining (ASX: OBM) is a uniquely positioned gold exploration and development company as 100% owner of the Davyhurst Gold Project in the highly productive Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia.
After completing over 50,000 metres of drilling, Ora Banda Mining has more than 23.7 million tonnes of surface and underground resources.  

In preparation for first gold which is planned for early 2021, the refurbishment of the processing plant has commenced and commissioning is scheduled for the last quarter of 2020.  The processing plant will process ore from both open pit and underground mines.

Davyhurst is located 120 km north-west of Kalgoorlie. The region is host to multiple gold deposits with OBM currently carrying a total resource exceeding 2.1M oz at an average grade of 2.8 g/t Au. 
In preparation for the start-up of the Davyhurst Gold Project, applications are sought from experienced open pit mining professionals to join the team at Ora Banda.
Reporting to the site based General Manager, the Open Pit Mining Manager will lead the open pit operations out of care and maintenance, back into operations.
Supported by a technical team, the Open Pit Mining Manager will be responsible for leading mining activities and managing the mining contractor to meet forecast production and financial targets, whilst maintaining the highest standards of team leadership, safety and environmental management for open pit mining operations.
The responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out to the highest standard of safety in accordance with Company policies and workplace safety and environmental regulations.
  • As the appointed person, meet the requirements and obligations of Quarry Manager in accordance with section 37 of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994.
  • Oversee site-based activities to ensure the timely delivery of the open pit operation into production.
  • Recruitment, leadership and development of the Company’s open pit technical and senior operational team.
  • Manage performance standards for the Open Pit Mining team and ensure compliance and competency of personnel.
  • Ensure that mine design, planning and schedule are aligned with the LOM plan and schedule.
  • Evaluate and optimise current and future resources.
  • Manage the open pit production and financial budget, including CAPEX.
  • Manage the activities of the mining contractor personnel, with particular focus on contractual milestones, safety and cost.
  • Manage mine production; mine planning and technical services ensuring that mining operation are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Identify and take corrective action for any variance from approved budgets (production and cost).
  • Work closely with the Geology and Survey departments to ensure that production from all resources is optimised.
  • Work closely with the Processing and Metallurgy department to deliver volume and blend of ore to the ROM.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with all levels of the organisation.
  • Oversee the development, implantation and use of policy, procedures and plans relating to mining related site infrastructure.
  • Establish reporting systems for the open pit operation
To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Tertiary qualification in mine engineering or a related field
  • Unrestricted Quarry Manager’s Ticket
  • 10+ years’ post-graduate experience in open pit development and production environments
  • 5+years in senior open pit roles, including quarry manager or alternate quarry manager Sound knowledge of statutory safety requirements relevant to mining
  • Sound knowledge of statutory safety requirements relevant to mining
  • Experience in reviewing, negotiating, awarding and management of mining contractor would be ideal
  • Technical expertise in relation to Open Pit mine design, drill and blast, optimisation and planning
  • Proven ability to meet mining targets whilst focusing on safety standards, operational efficiencies, productivity and cost effectiveness
  • Proven leadership and people management experience demonstrated by high levels of employee engagement, development and retention
  • Strong working knowledge and application of mining software
  • Current WA manual driver’s licence.
  • Candidates must be domiciled and eligible to work in Australia (without requiring sponsorship) to be considered for employment by Ora Banda Mining.
  • Due to the current travel restrictions into Western Australia imposed by Covid-19, interstate candidates should identify their availability to relocate to Western Australia to undertake this role until these restrictions are lifted.
