The LGAQ communicates to our members, stakeholders, and the public in a range of formats.  You will be the person responsible for leading the creation and production of video, audio and digital communications content.

The Digital Journalist at LGAQ works with a team of communications experts to deliver key messages, identify contemporary ideas for sharing of content and improve engagement with our members councils. They will be a person who thrives on identifying new and innovative ideas to help increase our digital footprint.

If you’re interested, you should have:
  • Demonstrated experience in filming/photography, editing and writing skills, a great news sense and a flair for producing compelling video, print, digital and audio material. 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism or marketing together with expert knowledge of print, media and communication strategies, processes and techniques. 
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in communications, publications, digital media or public relations. 
  • Experience in the production of print and digital publications
  • Demonstrated ability to originate and pursue news and feature ideas. 
  • High level project management skills, including an ability to set, enforce and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into easily understood messages that reach a wide audience. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member. 
  • Ability to liaise effectively with executives and other external stakeholders. 
It will be desirable to also be able to demonstrate:
  • A broad understanding of Queensland state and local politics and key issues impacting the local government sector. 
  • Experience with producing info graphics. 
  • Proficient at using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs. 
  • Experience in selling advertising space. 
The successful candidate responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the creation and production of LGAQ video, audio and digital communications content and features for distribution across a range of platforms.
  • Lead the production of LGAQ publications, including Council Leader, our quarterly magazine and our regular Electronic Direct Mail (EDMs).
  • Assist our Media Executive in preparing media releases and responding to media enquiries related to Queensland local government.
  • Facilitate, author, and edit digital content and assist with film and media campaigns.
  • Identify, research and write material for internal and public relations activities to promote local government.
  • Deliver multimedia training and support to colleagues and coordinate the scheduling of content capture.
  • Keep across digital communications best practice to ensure LGAQ communications are innovative and of the highest standard.
  • Ensure the delivery of LGAQ key messages regarding policy outcomes across a range of multimedia platforms.
  • Provide innovative solutions to improving member engagement particularly in relation to ensuring the organisation effectively communicates its activities and achievements.
  • Assist the Communications Team to build on the Association 's social media presence, and provide support and assistance to Queensland councils to enhance and improve their digital presence
