Scientist Research & Development

Seuss Recruitment BV

We are looking for a highly motivated and inquisitive Scientist. The position will focus on the Research and Development of novel gene therapies

  • PhD
  • Molecular Cell Biology
  • Virology
Our client is dedicated to bringing innovative therapies or unmet medical needs to patients. In doing so each function is directly or indirectly responsible for the lives of patients. This responsibility should be part of our day-to-day working life by (i) living up to high quality standards and (ii) by recognizing the sense of urgency in areas of high medical need.
We are looking for a highly motivated and inquisitive Scientist. The position will focus on the Research and Development of novel gene therapy approaches designed to treat genetic diseases; starting in the third quarter 2019.
The Research and Development has several functions and responsibilities: including proof-of-mechanism and proof-of-concept studies, as well as the identification of therapeutic target leads and immunological testing. The group is a major contributor to the Research and Development activities of AAV-based gene therapy platform, and a key value generator.
The Scientist support Intellectual Property (IP) activities, whilst also having a broader scientific support role. The Scientist will additionally be involved in the research and development of novel gene therapies for genetic diseases under the supervision of the Director PKPD. The Scientist will also research, explore, analyse and validate AAV vectors for gene and small RNA-molecule delivery by use of in vitro and in vivo experiments. The Scientist will support the Director PKPD and he/she is involved in initiating new therapeutic leads, practical laboratory work, partly organising the work of technicians, experimental planning, data analyses and writing reports. The Scientist will participate in the discussion of new and ongoing projects, support the coordination and delegation of the research to other departments and institutions.
Job Objectives and Responsibilities
  • Provide wider scientific support within the department, e. intellectual property (IP) and additional support, such as competitive intelligence analyses
  • When necessary can participate directly in experimental work planned by the Director of PKPD, and/or other key team members
  • It is expected the role will entail approximately1/3rd lab-based work and 2/3rds scientific support functions
  • Brings up his/her ideas regarding the line of research and, upon mutual agreement, implements the new ideas and concepts, disseminates and reports the results
  • Plans his/her own work under supervision of the Director, sets priorities and timelines and adheres to these timelines
  • Is quality orientated (e. detail and data critical) and he/she evaluates his/her own behaviour and corrects him/herself if needed. He/she proposes ways to improve quality and throughput
  • Efficiently disseminates scientific and other data to multiple internal stakeholders
  • Writes data reports and peer reviewed material for internal and external purposes
  • Updates project proposals
Core Competencies
  • Relevant affinity with wider scientific support, with a key interest in translational research, and the ability to clearly and accurately disseminate information from various sources, g. peer review and patent publications and other material
  • PhD, (translational) molecular cell biology, virology or related topic
  • In depth and preferably hands on knowledge of relevant molecular biological techniques ((cloning, plasmid purification and analysis, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, cell-based biological assays (g. Luciferase))
  • Good scientific knowledge in the field of genetic metabolic diseases and gene regulation
  • Able to act in a fast changing and demanding environment, willing and able to demonstrate a hands-on attitude and the delivery and execution of pragmatic and solution driven approaches
  • Enthusiastic, able to support other departments with information practical work
  • Plans his/her own work with supervision of the Director

  • Pro-active attitude, flexible and professional
 Additional Competencies
  • Intellectual property, g. searches, review, etc, writing,
  • Scientific experience and interest in the area of virology, RNAi and metabolic diseases
  • Solution driven and goal directed
  • Adapts new information and ideas and applies this effectively to his/her own work.
  • Pro-active attitude, flexible and professional
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional environment
  • Able to move seamlessly to move projects forward with both internal and external stakeholders
