Successful household Scottish business recruiting Head of HSE

HEAD OF HEALTH AND SAFETY
BASED DUNFERMLINE, FIFE
SALARY £45-55,000 PLUS BENEFITS
 
Based in Fife, ESS’ client is amongst the UK’s largest producers of PVCu window and door products for the domestic replacement, commercial and new build sectors.  They are a household name, and a manufacturer of high-end bespoke products.  A young and ambitious Management Team is driving the business into new geographies and markets.  Operating across multiple sites Scotland wide, the HSE function has to adapt accordingly.  They are now looking to recruit an ambitious and aspirational Head of Health and Safety to drive the HSE agenda and culture company wide.
 
The Head of Health and Safety will report directly to the Managing Director.  Your job will be to advise and execute strategic HSE plans and culture top down across the business and bottom up.  Employing modern coaching, training and leadership tactics, you will help ensure a consistency of HSE behaviour across all functions, levels and sites.  This will include manufacturing, supply depots, the fleet vehicles and construction sites.  We would expect the Head of Health and Safety to be at the forefront of what’s new in HSE, advising the leadership team, implementing your ideas and creating a world class culture and attitude to HSE.  Key responsibilities include:
 
  • Carry out a gap analysis of existing operational, environmental and health and safety procedures, identifying areas where new procedures are required. Develop identified procedures.
  • Implement new and updated operational, environmental and health and safety procedures, ensuring that all personnel are trained and fully understand the procedure.
  • Review existing method statements and risk assessments in line with current legislation, updating as required and implementing to the workforce.
  • Stay up-to-date with both health and safety, and environmental regulations to ensure that the company complies with changes in legislation.
  • Update the management team on changes to legislation that affect the business. Develop and implement new procedures to ensure that we are compliant with these changes.
  • Carry out daily internal audits in the form of installation site inspections to ensure that procedures are being adhered to.
  • Take the necessary action to resolve any non-conformances recorded during site inspections, identifying any trends relating to both procedures and personnel.
  • Carry out environmental audits to ensure compliance with both environmental legislation and company procedures.
  • Develop an annual training plan to ensure that all operational, environmental and health and safety training is delivered to the workforce. Monitor the training to ensure that it is received by all staff.
 
 
The successful candidate is educated to degree calibre and is NEBOSH or IOSH certified.  This role will suit hungry, bright and ambitious HSE professionals possibly looking for their first chance at leading HSE in a large business.  It is also suited to dynamic existing HSE Managers or Leaders wanting a change.  A background in construction, manufacturing, engineering or utilities would be relevant.
