With a brand new purpose built base in Edinburgh, ESS’s client is a leading UK in-vitro life sciences and biotechnology business.  They are about to commercialise and launch a new medical device/instrument globally, to complement their core scientific products.  This technology will completely revolutionise how blood banks and hospitals profile, transfuse, diagnose and manage blood typing, help improve virology screening, and can be applied to a host of new markets.  All product R+D is done from Edinburgh, and they now need to hire a Data Analytics Manager.

Reporting into the VP, Instrument Development this role entails the provision of guidance and expertise to direct reports and cross functionally to enable effective analysis and determine performance of control datasets from both a statistical and functional standpoint to allow continued development and commercialisation of their products.

The main responsibilities will include:
  • Serves as lead Data Analyst for assigned projects, coordinates and monitors work assignment of direct reports.
  • Coordinate and approve Statistical Analysis Plans (SAP), mock-up tables, programming and derived dataset specifications developed by the data analytics team.
  • Lead protocol development work including experimental design, randomization, sample size calculation, statistical methods, defining study objectives and parameters.
  • Develop programs to visualise large data sets such that process improvements can be more easily recognised.
  • Support algorithm development in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Science/Mathematical Degree or similar with Computational/Data Science/Biostatistics/Bioinformatics type experience.
  • Six Sigma qualification or Black / Green Belt would be an advantage but not essential, experience applying techniques will be useful 
  • Industrial or academic experience using statistical packages such as Minitab, MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, R.
  • Experience managing teams, ideally in a GMP/GLP environment or similar
