Aspire Cambridge are recruiting for a Tax & Trusts Assistant on behalf of our client in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

The firm focuses on agriculture, medical practices, owner managed businesses and private clients.

This role will appeal to a variety of candidates such as individuals with administrative experience, tax or accounts experience or school/University leavers. The role can be adapted for the right candidate who is enthusiastic to be part of the tax and trusts department.

Exam qualifications
The firm would be happy to support suitable candidates through relevant professional qualifications. However, we appreciate that some candidates will be qualified by experience or would prefer to obtain their experience in-house.
Any exam costs and study support will be covered by us in addition to your salary, if appropriate.

The role
The role would predominantly relate to the private client sector. The responsibilities include; Core responsibilities:
  • Dealing with the day-to-day administration on clients.
  • Preparation of Trust & Estate self-assessment tax returns and personal tax returns including related tax calculations using the firm’s software (CCH), for review by a senior member of staff. All related correspondence with clients, HM Revenue & Customs and third parties as required. Monitoring and working to related deadlines.
  • Monitoring deadlines on Trusts and Estates such as ten yearly charges and beneficial entitlements.
  • Provide support in dealing with telephone calls, client meetings, engagement letters and general office administration. Carry out any other duties to meet with the needs of the business. Additional responsibilities depending on the candidate:
  • Preparation of client payrolls, including managing deadlines and payroll year end.
  • Preparation of Trust & Estate accounts using the firm’s software (CCH Trust Accounts), for review by a senior member of staff.
  • Completion of Inheritance Tax returns for Trusts and Estates, for review by a senior member of staff.
  • Preparing ad hoc advisory work, such as advising on Trust distributions, for review by a senior member of staff. 
Skills required:
  • GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English
  • Educated to A-level standard or equivalent
  • You will be interested in pursuing a career in trusts and taxation
  • You need the ability to manage your own time and work to deadlines
  • You will have to communicate effectively with other team members and have the ability to work well in a team
  • You will need to have great attention to detail. Desired:
  • Relevant experience or a full/part qualification in trusts, tax or accounts
  • An understanding of Trust and Estate accounts
