You will be part of a team of support workers delivering care and support to a young lady with Autism and severe challenging behaviour to live in her own home. She has moderate learning disabilities, and epilepsy under control with medications. Or with a young gentleman to assist with manual handling, personal care, and domestic duties.

Fred* enjoys watching TV and movies with his staff team. He also has an adapted car that allows him to wheel his wheelchair into the front passenger seat. He requires support with his personal care. You will also need to give Fred* his medication, he may refuse, or he may independently take it. Fred* enjoys his staff team to be enthusiastic, happy, and talkative.
Anne* loves music, especially Abba songs; she likes everyone to join in and sing along with her. She is very close to her family members and enjoys spending time with them, especially her mother and father.

She has a 24/7 support package. 3:1 support from 7 am – 9 pm, 2:1 support from 9 pm, sleep-in from 10 pm- 7 am. There is specific training provided. Our male client also requires 24/7 care, but he is assisted with one member of staff throughout the day and waking night, but an additional member of staff for double up shifts twice a day.
She is generally independent with all aspects of her own personal care. However, she may require prompting now and again. She also requires support with the domestic tasks within the home.

Although supporting Anne* has its challenges, it is extremely rewarding. Anne* has a history, both in childhood and adulthood of severely challenging behaviour. Anne also needs to wear a harness when traveling by car.

It is essential that Anne* is supported by a team of staff who are calm, patient, reflective, energetic, and have a good knowledge of positive behavioural support approaches. Anne's challenging behaviours can sometimes necessitate the use of physical interventions, both breakaway and restrictive.

*We are protecting the client's identity by calling her Anne and him Fred; this is not their real names.
