VCH are working with an impressive BioTech business whose mission is to unlock the secrets of proteins and their interactions. The Role

You will be part of the R&D team, working on the development and optimisation of their state of the art sensor platform within a team of chemists and engineers.

As a hardware engineer, you will design, build, and maintain the instrumentation that enables electrochemical measurements using biosensing technology. This includes general hardware development (i.e., PCB design, electronics prototyping, mechanical assemblies, validation) as well as light software development (i.e., writing/maintaining firmware and software to collect data and control an automation rig).
 
Your Responsibilities
  • Design and build the next generation of the sensor platform
  • Design PCBs with analog circuitry to facilitate electrochemical measurements
  • Design mechanical systems for automated experiments
  • Develop/maintain firmware and software for a demonstrator platform
  • Validate internal and external designs and prototypes
  • Work together with the R&D team to troubleshoot complex problems
  • Provide support for product development
Minimum requirements
  • MSc in physics or engineering, or BSc in one of these fields with at least three years of relevant industry experience
  • Previous experience with PCB design (Altium, Eagle)
  • Experience developing embedded systems and desktop applications (C/C++, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience in 2D and 3D mechanical design (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity or understanding of microfabrication processes and nanomaterial devices
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment
  • Understanding of electrochemical cells and amplifier circuitry for biosensing experiments
  • Experience with embedded Linux, or the enthusiasm to learn
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualisation tools such as Python and R
  • Experience handling biological samples, e.g. proteins, DNA, aptamers
