Key Job Tasks:  
  • Analyze specifications, and lay out metal stock.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die design and construction.
  • Study and review specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize final product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method(s) and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lift machined parts manually or using hoist, and position and secure parts on surface plate or worktable, using devices, such as vises, V-blocks, and angle plates.
  • Smooth out flat and contoured surfaces, using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders, and fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms, using hand-tools.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  • Heat-treats tools or parts.
  • May connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
  • May examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • May develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
  • May specialize in repair work and be designated Tool-And-Die Repairer (machine shop).
  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Other tasks as required or directed by the Engineering Manager.
 
Requirements:
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control for maximizing the effective manufacture of product.
  • Previous experience using a Bruderer Press
  • Strong computer skills with common computer programs and the company software.
  • Mathematics – Strong knowledge of arithmetic, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and their applications.
  • Communication- effectively communicate with others at all levels of the organization both written and audibly to convey necessary information effectively.
  • Organizational and follow-up skills to assure projects stay on time.
  • Continuous Improvement- Objectively monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, procedures, products, etc., in order to make suggestions or corrective actions that drive continuous improvement.
  • Independence - Position requires developing one's own ways of doing things, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending on oneself to get things done.
