Pay Rate: $75,000 to $85,000 DOE

Job Overview: The Tool Design Engineer (TDE) designs a wide variety of tools consistent with standard tool configuration, including custom tool design.  The TDE studies part prints and models to determine tool specifications and requirements.  They will interface with manufacturing staff and engineering to determine the best design for the tool.  The TDE will perform design calculations to determine exact dimensions, materials, and cost of the tools.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in Solidworks CAD software for tooling design and development.  The TDE will work with engineering to identify problems with tool performance or tool life and recommend solutions or enhancements.  The TDE may develop experimental programs targeted on cost savings and machining up-time.  Individual will report to a supervisor or manager of programming engineering and contribute to moderately complex aspects of a project.  Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Head responsibility for tooling engineering required for production assistance.
  • Head responsibility for tooling inclusive of test tooling on allotted machines plus lines.
  • Write tooling methodology plus specifications for new tooling manufacturing.
  • Develop tool wear profiles and define optimum application parameters for maximum tool life.
  • Develop tooling geometry for various metals
  • Maintain tooling libraries
  • Influence and develop fixturing to support high volume machine strategies
  • Perform toward enhancing entire part quality to reduce scrap as well as rework.
  • Provide cost effective and high quality technical support
  • Reduce machine setup conversion costs and enhance process equipment OEE.
  • May require limited travel to vendor or customer sites for technical review
Requirements:  The successful candidate will need a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or an associate's degree and relevant work experience (7-10 years) in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
