  • Minimum: B Eng/B Com (Hons), MDP, Project Management Cert; Desirable: PrEng, PMP
  • 6-8+ yrs experience within heavy industry/mining/production environment
  • 3+ yrs Project Portfolio Management experience in Construction/Civil Design
OVERVIEW:
Join a leading mining house to work with the Project Manager on a large scale coal mine expansion project in Mpumalanga to optimise and execute projects and deploying resources based on the project strategic plan.  Manage the execution of projects in adherence to service delivery standards and effectively communicate project results measurements and tracking of compliance.
 
CHALLENGES:
  • Operating under Industry and the Group’s lead project management best practice.
  • Cross functional professional support and cooperation required for project component integration.
  • Work knowledge of different expert areas of project.
  • Guidance of contractors and service providers to ensure project support services are up to requirements and standards.
  • Cost Recovery and forecasting accuracy
EXPECTED OUTPUTS & TASKS:
 
Business Performance and Development
  • Support development of strategy whilst ensuring applicable systems exist to achieve strategy implementation
  • In consultation with Manager, Projects provides inputs for development of project management capability to enable competitive advantage and cost management, in line with the Group’s strategy
Compliance, Governance and Assurance
  • Implement controls to ensure legal compliance within each designated area and project
  • Implement effective Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) management
  • systems and compliance to regulations
  • Recognise, understand and take action to manage risks that can impact project outputs
  • Provide and participate in developing governance systems for best practice
  • Adhere to requirements of quality management systems
  • Consolidate monthly reports and participate in management and other meetings as required
Customer and Client Relationship Management
  • Ensure that clients are highly aware and satisfied with capability of support service and their requirements are met
  • Effective communication of project results
Financial Management
  • Provide technical input to appropriate quantitative analyses conducted to evaluate financial viability of new projects and initiatives cross functional
  • Financial planning, systematically and efficiently monitoring and budgeting for resources needed for project management
  • Assists Project Manager (PM) to fulfil requirements of budget and Change Request processes
Functional Excellence
  • Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end-to-end processes, tools, templates etc.
  • Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication/bureaucracy
  • Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices/knowledge

 Project Support
  • General Project Administrative Management
  • Update and maintain Project documentation with relevant Project information
  • Assist PM by delivering completed project timeously
  • Attend meetings, workshops and other initiatives conducted by Project Management Office (PMO) and contribute to project by knowledge sharing
  • Manage process of gathering, confirming and controlling scope
  • Monitor progress to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and meets or exceeds expectations
  • Participate and contribute to change management and project assurance initiatives
  • Provide inputs required for managing work plans
  • Identifying, tracking, escalating and resolving situations adversely affecting budget, quality, schedule, performance or delivery
  • Provide high level technical expertise
  • Manage process of controlling scope and requirements to ensure program and projects reach intended business objectives for both service provider and client
  • Sourcing of skills required to fulfill project demands
  • Provide inputs required for setting up and managing work plans, and effective communication of project results
  • Measure and monitor progress at clearly defined points in process to ensure that project is delivered on time, within budget

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS AND AFFILIATIONS:
  • B Eng (Relevant) or B Com (Hons) (Relevant) (Essential/Minimum)
  • Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate Project Management (Essential/Minimum)
  • Project Management Professional (Recommended/Desirable)
  • Engineering Council of SA (Pr Eng) (Recommended/Desirable)
 
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 6-8 year’s relevant operational experience within heavy industry/mining/production environment of which at least 3 years Project Portfolio Management experience
  • Project Management and Project Portfolio Management experience in Construction/Civil Design and Maintenance
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
  • Procurement, Project Engineering, Contract and Project Management
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • South African citizens only
  • EE candidates preferred
  • The Candidate must be willing to work at Matla / Kriel 5 days a week

R90 000 – R100 000 p.m.
