Our client is a leading hard good distributor selling to North American retailers in business for almost a century.  With an exciting and highly dymanic product range, our client is seeking a skilled and talented Category Manager to build on the success of their team.  In this role you will manage selection, product development, sourcing, negotiation as well as merchandising and product quality.  This role is ideal for the Category Management professional seeking opportunity to bring their talents, opinions and leadership into an organization seeking long term growth through new, creative strategies.

Some of what you will do in this role includes:
  • Innovate new high value, high quality products and product categories
  • Plan and implement long range strategic plans to the category
  • Forecast as well as optimize key metrics for enhanced inventory management
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop and execute yearly marketing and promotional plans to ultimately increase sales and margin
  • Conduct line reviews to increase the profitability of line offerings by filling gaps and eliminating duplication in existing product lines as well as making decisions on end of line items
  • Work closely with suppliers and in-house logistics team to plan purchases in a manner where the right items arrive on time in the right quantity and at the right price
  • Develop and execute purchasing plan 
  • Collaborate with Marketing to maintain online sales, create marketing materials and ensure consistent packaging or develop new packaging
  • Act as a knowledge center to Sales by proffering your technical knowledge and analytical skills to assist in making deals happen
  • With a strong eye for quality, you will continue to source new and exciting products while negotiating the best possible prices to offer customers
You should have the following in your background:
  • Post secondary education
  • Strong category management experience
  • Merchandising experience 
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with proven ability to leverage data and analytics
  • Understands industry and consumer trends
  • Strong sense of leadership, initiative and a get it done attitude
  • Deadline and results oriented
  • Ability to negotiate effectively, communicate at a high level
  • Experience with procurement from Asian suppliers
  • Willingness to travel abroad and within North America
  • Highly competent in MS Office applications
