Delta Based Payroll and Benefits Manager

MacDonald Search Group is pleased to partner with the Canadian division of a prominent North American speciality consumer packaged goods company in its search for a Payroll and Benefits Manager!  Based in Delta, this role will focus on providing leadership for a small Payroll and Benefits team who provide service for 800+ employees in Canada (and counting!). Reporting to the Corporate Controller with a dotted line to Director of Human Resources, this position has overall responsibility for all payroll and benefits management for Canadian staff via in-house payroll processing.  The manager supervises two payroll coordinators and interfaces frequently with the HR departments at two manufacturing facilities.  The individual will play a key role in ensuring that the needs of employees and the organization are met while complying with all labor and tax regulations. 

What you will be doing:
  • Overall responsibility for all payroll and benefits functions for two manufacturing facilities (one union and one non union).
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial statutes regarding payroll.  
  • Partner with brokers and benefit providers in administration and oversight of benefit programs
  • Create an employee-focused internal customer service experience
  • Provide meaningful reporting and insights on payroll data to management
  • Focus on continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department
  • Manage and coach for the development of the payroll coordinator position at each location.   
Who you are:
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience with full-cycle payroll & benefits administration
  • You possess your Certified Payroll Manager Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, HR or related field required
  • Progressive experience with multi-site payroll responsibilities including team leadership.
  • Experience working within a Unionized payroll environment preferred.
  • Current knowledge of federal and BC and Ontario provincial regulations required
  • Experience with data analysis and auditing procedures, Excel knowledge required
  • Knowledge of basic economic and accounting principles and practices
  • Versed in project implementation and process improvement 
  • Experienced in ERP system, versed in Navision an asset
