Chief Engineer - LHD (Product Development)

SUMMARY
 
Our client is a very reputable OEM within the industrial equipment manufacturing space, specializing in the construction, mining, industrial and forestry space.  They are a conglomerate of several manufacturing companies with various product lines.  We are looking for a New Product Development Engineer to step into one of these facilities in East Texas to assist with design and testing of hard rock mining equipment.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for engineering management of New Product Development (NPD) activities within assigned product line. NPD activities is inclusive of complete new machine designs (i.e. new models, size classes, generations, or product families) and significant upgrades or options to current and legacy models (i.e. new power units, lift arm configurations, capacity changes).
  • Work in a matrix environment, both within Engineering as well as the entire enterprise, to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Liaise with Product Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Technical Product Support, Design Engineering personnel and Komatsu Account Managers. Drive NPD project communication and coordination at all levels.
  • Responsible for assimilating VOC (Customer Mine Site, Operations, Product Support, etc.) and Functional Specification inputs and ensuring NPD meets technical, functional, and commercial requirements.
  • Responsible for creating Technical Specifications to guide engineering NPD design efforts.
  • Support development of a multi-year strategic Hybrid LHD Product Road Map.
  • Build effective relationships with engineering managers, the greater enterprise, regions, and customers.
  • Partner with Product Management

REQUIREMENTS
  • This position requires a four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Management preferred.
  • 7+ years of Engineering experience.
  • Industry related experience in underground hard rock mining or off highway construction equipment. Experience related to LHD’s and or rubber tire, articulated, electric drive underground vehicles is a plus.
  • Effective communication and follow-up skills to manage projects from concept to fruition.
  • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information (technical, Voice of Customer, and commercial) from multiple sources in order to have credibility with customers, project team partners and peers.
  • Requires an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people both internal and external to the organization, while building strong relationships.
  • Ability to influence and deliver results through people.
